The "live" fireworks show millions of Americans watch on PBS was not really live, the television network admitted Monday night after an avalanche of social media messages questioning if the broadcast was edited.

"We showed a combination of the best fireworks from this year and previous years," PBS tweeted. "It was the patriotic thing to do."

Fake is the new patriotic? Huh? Who can you trust in Washington anymore? Oh, well. PBS producers of "A Capitol Fourth" realized Monday night's overcast sky was not the best canvas for a televised fireworks display, so they edited a greatest hits version.

Here are some clips of things that may or may not have happened in our nations capital Monday night.
